We are in our 4th Year of Podcasts since our first podcast on Mar 23, 2008 with Maynard Stanley, Mike Flick, Kevin Dahn , The Late Bob Evans and the Late Kirk Lapierre . I am grateful to each of these men who agreed to all call in and have a discussion “Radio Show” style. Who would of ever thought this little hobby doing a podcast on wildlife control would of ever lasted this long.

I am grateful to each and everyone of you who joined me in various topics like Bat Removal, Attic Restorations, and what about Ron Jones whole series of podcasts on squirrels and building a nwco business. Each of these are featured on the forum in bottom left side corner with the orange media players.

We ended up doing 5 lengthy podcasts called Bat Controll 101-105. We broke down the inspection process, and went through each step of a bat exclusion. We discussed equipment , and techniques. Bat Removal 105 was about Bat Conservation and how we NWCO’s can help.

We did a podcast called what is a Attic Restoration really! Listen to it here. I am in need of articles on the different equipment used in the fur trapping  industry. Tell us about your long line experiences or a favorite set. PescoPestControl.Com is a new acquisition with its first listed page on the internet on Apr 28, 2001. The site actually was registered first on Mar 13, 1999. Any articles on pest control form operators are strongly encouraged and will be fully accredited including back links to your companies web site.

I have high expectations for the marketing ability of Pest Control Operators in 2012 for Both the United States and Canada since this is one of the earliest pest control web sites in the Internets history. The site is under development and all good things come in time. I can’t expect Google, Bing and Yahoo to index more then a few posts/pages at a time but by Feb/March 2012 it should be ready for the Prime Time.

6.Update Regarding USDA Wildlife Services

Dan Glover of Trapper Dan’s had an eventful meeting with his congressmen over the congressional break. Many of you  who have been involved in the Defunding USDA Wildlife Services now have the opportunity to testify before Congress this Spring. I will be putting together a list of those who will be invited to testify.

Those of you still wanting to share new situations in front of Congress that involves unfair competition please get with Robb 352-575-0121 or Dan Glover http://www.trapperdans.com/. We have been promised after Congress gets back in session an announcement will be made and a committee member will have a future Congressional POC.

Apparently our tea party friend in Congress agrees with the position of The Wildlife Pro Network that the USDA Wildlife Services has out grown its usefulness.

The USDA Wildlife Services did a 5000+ SF, courthouse  a Two Story building and was bid at 72.5 cents per square foot[SF] compared to two other bidders who both came in around $4 per SF [+ or -] of each other. Mike Hurley the second bidder set a full day for just sealing up the nearly 100 foot  pyramid shaped tower and four days of mechanical lift rentals for the remainder of this structure.

It was designed by the Wheeling architectural firm of Franzheim and Giesey and is in the Romanesque Revival style.
The porches at the front and southeast corners feature heavy stone columns with stout capitals that support the balcony’s balustrade. It is on the National Historical Register.

• Were you provided a variety of control options? Exclusion, trapping, eviction, habitat modification or maybe even suggesting that nothing be done? How does his/her recommendations compare with those suggested by the Prevention and Control of Wildlife Damage?Understand that sometimes the NWCO doesn’t present you with a variety of options because you already gave him specific instructions. Don’t be angry at the NWCO if he does what you tell him. If you want to double check, ask him if there are other possible solutions than the one you asked for? Better yet, ask the NWCO if there are other control options than what he/she suggested.

• Workman’s Comprehensive Insurance? This insurance protects the worker if he gets injured on the job. Understand that most NWCO’s are self employed and so may not be required by law to have it. However, if they have other employees they may have to have it.
• Contract. Will the NWCO provide a contract?
• Philosophy. Will the NWCO provide services according to your preference and in accordance with local laws? Keep in mind that your preferences may change the price both in time and money of the service.

Considerations on Price

• How dangerous is the job? (ladder work is always dangerous)
• Difficulty in controlling the species? (Some species like gray squirrels are easy to control. Others like red squirrels can be more difficult).
• Distance to your location? (If the NWCO has to travel 20 miles one way to reach your location, he will need to get paid for the time both ways).
• Cost of living in your area? (NWCO’s in urban areas often get more money than those who live in rural ones).
• Guarantee? what kind of warranty of guarantee does the wildlife control operator give? Depending on the species, a month to a year is sufficient. Also, guarantees are only as good as the company who gives them. If they go out of business, the guarantee means nothing.
• Demand for services? How busy is the NWCO? Sometimes NWCO’s raise prices due to excessive demand. Other times prices may be lower due to reduced demand.
• Remember, quality companies that have insurance, good equipment and training have high costs. While high prices don’t guarantee quality, low prices almost always guarantee that the person is not insured.

Here are a few of my notes please check the law yourself since I am not qualified as an attorney to interpret any Florida law.

Just got back from the meeting. Anyone with questions I would be happy to answer any questions  not covered below.

Some of the highlights Regarding : 

482.157 Limited certification for commercial wildlife management personnel.

1. The book for the certification of the limited license is expected out Jan 2012. Ninety days after its release they are expecting to start testing (late Mar 2012).

2. With the limited license we will be able to do any non pesticide commensal rodents (mice and rats). Law did not change and bats(chioptera) are still classified as rodents no where in the world but Florida.

3. You will be able to take the test , pass it but will not get a certificate until you show proof of insurance min 200,000k per occurrence, 500,000 aggregate.

4. Limited license will allow us to do any nuisance vertebrate pest control in , on, or around a structure.

5. You may work in this grace period with one exception if you get in trouble with a consumer and you are found at fault; you will be fined because the current law says you must have a certificate to do this work.

6. You should not have any advertising in the media (including internet for rats & mice if you do not have a Florida GHP License.
